After making GitHub Copilot free for VS Code users and introducing the Copilot Edits by the VS Code team to enable them to compete with fast-growing AI-integrated IDEs such as Cursor and Windsurf. These days, the VS Code team has introduced a preview feature in the Copilot Edits call agent mode, which is an autonomous AI agent similar to the Composer and Cascade in the Cursor and Windsurf IDEs.
All these new features are related to a bigger product with the codename Project Padawan, which will be an SWE agent on GitHub.
